This Soccer Game Is for Everyone He shoots . . . he scores! And so do Billy and Hanna and Jake and Melissa and Zachary and Benjamin and you, too. The city-wide Southeast Storm program promotes competitive soccer within the framework of improving a player's skills, having fun and promoting community league-based programs at a select level.
The outdoor season for the Storm program typically starts April 30 and runs until mid-August for Tiers 1 and 2 while Tiers 3 and 4 typically run until mid-July with the potential to advance to the provincials, which are in August.
If your child is interested in playing outdoor competitive soccer, he or she must attend the appropriate evaluation session that is being provided to boys and girls playing in the age groups of U14, U16 and U18. Each child must be registered within his or her community organization before attending an evaluation session, so please ask at the desk for a registration form or check the website for more information. If you do not reside within the South East Zone, you must notify the Edmonton Southeast Soccer Association as we follow Edmonton Minor Soccer Association rules. The evaluation process determines the best level for a child so that he or she is playing, for the most part, with other like-skilled players. In an evaluation session, each child plays in a scrimmage environment in which independent evaluators evaluate each child's skills. The evaluations combine ball skills and small-sided games. There are no names on the evaluator's form, and each evaluator hands in his or her forms to a committee, which summarizes every child’s performance. The results of the evaluation session lets the committee determine if the child can compete at the competitive level. It is expected that individual players make a genuine commitment to participate in all activities of their team. This commitment should be taken into consideration when planning your personal schedules (i.e., vacations) and whether or not the competitive level is right for your child. It is important that the coach be aware of any conflicts in your child’s personal schedule prior to selection of the team. This means that your child may or may not be selected depending on the requirements for forming competitive teams or whether a competitive team can be formed for the age group. Each player will receive a phone call from the coach of the Storm program if he or she is selected for the team or from a coach in the community program. All registered children will have a place to play within the zone. The cost for Storm program is the base fee charged for each age group plus an additional fee of $80 for administration and uniforms and a fee for an optional academy. Two sets of uniforms and shorts are provided to each player on the Storm team for the season. We need volunteers to help coach and work at the registration for competitive evaluations. If you can help, please sign the Storm volunteer sheet, indicating the date you are available. Dates are posted for each age group and gender. That’s what the Storm program is all about! Everyone on the team gets a chance to play soccer at every game! No exceptions! No exclusions! “It’s all about the love of the game,” says James Winterburn, former Storm director for the Southeast Edmonton Soccer Association. “Players sign up to play soccer because they want to play, and we offer that to every single player on our teams.” Storm teams concentrate on skill development while promoting sportsmanship, camaraderie and team spirit. The program is for soccer players, boys and girls, aged 12 to 17, who would like a little more of a challenge than the regular community team can offer.
